I spoke too soon [2]. Here’s the stat of the week (from the WSJ [3]): new houses are about 40% bigger than they were in 1980. That’s the median, not the average, so Bill Gates’s house doesn’t distort it. Lots of people, not just the top 1%, are getting richer in America.
