I was just talking with Pietro Poggi-Corradini about how we might keep tabs on what actually happens rather than on what is supposed to happen when the government spends $825 billion [2] quickly. Wouldn't it be great to keep track of how long it takes the money to get spent, what actually happens on the ground and so on? There's no way a reporter can follow it. Or an economist. So let's use the wisdom of crowds, the many-eyeball approach.
So how should we execute the monitoring strategy? A blog with each spending line a category that people can comment on? A wiki? Suggestions welcome and Pietro and I will try to implement. Assuming it passes. I haven't given up hope yet, but preparing for the worst.
