I think today is the last day to vote for EconTalk. So do your duty if you feel it worth your while.

I was surprised to hear Dr. Roberts say that there is overwhelming evidence suggesting global warming is man-made in the most recent econtalk. Does anyone have links to these articles? To my knowledge, global warming is a shaky theory based on estimated inputs. But I would like to hear the other side of the story. Dr. Roberts, are you being honest here? Are you?

Hey! We won! Where's the after party?

  • Woo Hoo! EconTalk won! Even beat the muggles out this year. Yay Russ. Yay free markets!

  • RL

Russ, I encourage you to run for Congress. "Do your duty if you think it worth your while" is one of the most benevolent anti-authoritarian slogans I can imagine.

  • Dan

Congrats, Russ. You have earned it. Keep up the good work!

    Bob H,

I view this award as a crystalized form of word of mouth marketing. It is much closer to something along the lines of 'please tell your friends about us' than actual democratic voting.

I for one would prefer my friends be better educated in economic thinking, so I tell them about EconTalk. Similarly, I want people who I do not know to be better educated in economic thinking but because I do not know these other people I must use the cutout of this award. My benefit comes in the form of a better educated voter, altruism, and early adopter ego stroking.

All these comparisons to actual democratic voting are entirely off the mark.

"do you really view this as a win under these circumstances?" This seems a little much to me. It assumes a purity in online voting that Russ is somehow deviating from. And I challenge that assumption with vigor.

    Russ, check this.

Short segment of audio with transcript. Charles Handy, founder of London Business School, talking sense. Could you have a chat with him please? Macro issues and how to educate economists and the general public should fill an hour.

While I'm at it, I'm a relatively new listener and am getting a lot out of the "micro guy exploring macro" aspect of some recent podcasts. (BTW macro=micro writ large seems entirely delusional. But my thing is frankly interpretive schools like anthropology, history and political economy.)

How about getting someone -- ideally an old fart who is or was a practitioner such as a trader or former Treasury or Fed official, or a journalist, last resort an academic -- to talk about exchange rates, how currency markets operate, pegged currencies, catastrophic revaluations and so on?

Very last suggestion, please mention the date of recording at the head of every podcast.

Cheers & many thanks for your efforts. The Webby page has finally loaded. I tossed a previous bone to Planet Money as start-up capital is short these days, will give you this vote and for real I've gotten a lot out of Econtalk.

Cheers & thanks for your efforts!!!

Isn't this a little shameless to get people to vote multiple times? What is the point of this? Russell, do you really view this as a win under these circumstances? You really disappointment me.

  • Martin Brock

That's five votes from me, and I really hate voting. Good luck.

  • Wow, I wonder if people are crowding the votes, dare I say using scripts? I can't get onto the page to place a vote...
