One of the "reasons" why I like America!

This is not a religious blog where curses are conjured for those who do not "believe" in this or that. What evidence suggests to you that BO's rendition of FDR's New Deal will do anything but similarly prolong negative growth?

Remember the Stevie Wonder lyrics? "when you believe in things you don't understand, superstition is your way."

    STrUmPiT,

    You gutless fool:

"She stated, on day one, that there is no overpopulation of homo sapiens on Earth because the entire human population could easily fit into the state of California. I wanted to ask her how many she would like to fit into her own house, or bed.

Why didn't you ask her" It would appear that you were present and slamming your hand in the air to get her attention and then asking your extremely insightful, witty, and intelligent question would have made your point and got your answer. Don't you think, STrUmPiT?

We all know why you didn't. You're gutless, no courage of convictions, and you're well aware she'd have ripped your little bleeding stupid heart to shreds with cold fact and logic and then the entire class would know what we here on the Cafe know.

    You're just plain "socialist stupid".

  • but so is that entire Goebbels propaganda piece by the Cato Institute. (I'd like to see its donors list.)

Trust a leftist to go straight for the ad hominem. That's all they've got left.

  • TrUmPiT

If you don't believe in the power of economic stimuli, just ask Mitt Romeny what he thinks. His daddy gave him a big one, and look what turned it into. Wow!

  • Marcus

    I agree with MnM.

  • MnM

Shock, I think if we stop feeding him he'll go away.

  • Oil Shock

    TRUMPIT,

why don't you kill yourself. THere is 1 less to worry about.

  • tw

But wait a minute, didn't Obama say again tonight that all economists agree that some sort of stimulus is necessary????

  • Marcus

Oh, and mezzanine, if you're interested in how conservatives would answer your question then, as Pedro suggested, maybe you should go to a conservative blog and ask them. I don't know what they'd say. Maybe they'd say we didn't blow enough money on Iraq or something, I don't know.

  • TrUmPiT

I know my comment is anecdotal, but so is that entire Goebbels propaganda piece by the Cato Institute. (I'd like to see its donors list.) I signed up for an econ class taught by one of the signatories to that Cato open letter trashing the stimulus. She stated, on day one, that there is no overpopulation of homo sapiens on Earth because the entire human population could easily fit into the state of California. I wanted to ask her how many she would like to fit into her own house, or bed. Maybe she'd like to take on the 14 kids that that crazy women who just gave birth to 8 more now has. Along with too many babies, maybe there are too many Phd's handed out as well. People who don't believe in economic stimuli should have their asses tossed out on to the street from the economic downturn and lose their home by foreclosure by the bank. Everyone one of those clowns that signed that petition has a secure job and will easily weather the current economic storm. But, they are in direct competition with Ringling Bros. circus and its freak show.

Mezzanine, it's interesting that you asked that because I just recently compared prices from the 70's from both the 1979 Sears catalog and the 1976 JCPenny catalog. I calculated prices in median wage hours for then and now. You would be amazed at how much prices have plummeted. Typically, items today go for a third the price in median wage hours than what they did then.

  • MWG

"How do conservatives answer the charge that the median wage has stagnated the last 30 years?"

I've heard this so many times... it's ridiculous to say the least.

I believe that "statistic" does not take into account benefits (ie healthcare, contributions to 401ks ect...)

I believe it's a measure of "household" incomes even though households have shrunk over that last 30 years.

It ALSO does not take into account that the cost of just about everything has gone down.

Whenever someone brings this up I ask; You mean to tell me we're no better off then we were 30 years ago??? (thinks cars, tvs, houses, cell phones, computers, travel, ect...)

Reason.tv has a good video about the middle class that covers all these points. I'd create a link, but I have no idea how. It's call "Living Large; America's Middle Class".

  • iamse7en

Why can't we get this video as an ad on PMSNBC?

  • Pedro

Mezzanine: Why not go and ask them?

  • Mezzanine

  • Good video from Cato, great critical message to the Left and Right socialists who dominate our two major political parties.
