Obama dispassionately assesses Geithner:

"I think Geithner is doing an outstanding job," Obama told host Jay
Leno in an appearance taped for Thursday night. "He is a smart guy. He
is a calm and steady guy. I don't think people fully appreciate the
plate that was handed him."

I don't think Obama knows how long he's been working in the kitchen:

As president of the New York Federal Reserve Bank from
2003 to early 2009, Geithner worked with Treasury Secretary
Henry Paulson and Fed Chairman Ben S. Bernanke from the start
of the credit crisis. He helped arrange both the takeover of
Bear Stearns Cos. by JPMorgan Chase & Co. last March and the
government rescue of AIG in September.

What can we expect from a guy who said being president is like being on American Idol?

Yes,Geithner is one of the ones who prepared the plate. Incredible.

I keep hearing the argument that we shouldn't be too critical of Obama, Geithner, Dodd, etc. They're doing their best while being overwhelmed with a complicated mess. What people that make this argument don't realize is that it's a tacit admission that the whole complicated mess can't be fixed by centralized command and control.
