Translation: "Even when we're supposed to be feeling sad and discouraged, the Universe continues as ever, from atoms to galaxies. Beauty waits like Cinderella did, aching to be noticed, eager to be invited to dance. Even as our invented notion of time tells us it's getting late, the sunrise is racing across the world to meet us tomorrow morning."

For anyone concerned by how much it costs, here's a tool you can use to work out if buying the new Kindle makes sense for you.

As for blogs on Kindle, there's the transaction cost of filling out the form to be featured.

Russ, the main thing I want a Kindle for is to read blogs away from my computer--but I don't see Cafe Hayek offered in the Kindle store. Am I missing something?

"... the greatest time to date in human history."

If the Kindle helps people with dating, then it has benefits that even Jeff Bezos probably couldn't imagine.

Rad, I'm so in favor of this, dude, if it saves one tree. I love trees and the birds, squirrels, and monkeys that inhabit them. Well, I haven't seen many non-human monkeys lately, but perhaps they can be reintroduced once the trees are replanted to reestablish blessed nature, as it once was. I can only imagine the fun people must have had discovering nature before dumb people ruined everything with golf course and amusement theme parks. Yeah, the fun they had. Far out.

If kindle, or a similiar or better device brings down the cost of textbooks, it'll be a boon to students. How will intellectual property be protected when all human knowledge can be stored in ones and zeros. I once saw a thick law book offered in CD-Rom format instead of a real book, but for some reason it hasn't become too popular a way to go.

It is also time for teachers to broaden their skill base to prepare for their planned obsolescence. IMO, carpentry and plumbing skills are still valuable in spite of the downturn in the housing market. And don't laugh at people who can grow things to eat. I'm planning on taking the plunge to teach myself modern economics even though home economics will surely provide more valuable skills. I'm recommending to myself Economics by 93 year-old Paul Samuelson, which is in the 19th edition. The best and brightest may also be the oldest, so there is still hope for me. I'd be thrilled to read his text on a Kindle. Perhaps the local library will buy a few, so I can try it out, and not have to shell out the five hundred bucks. When you're budgeting for dog food, and veterinary bills for aging dogs, you have to think twice about buying a Kindle. I don't even need an economics book to understand scarcity and priorities in life.

It is clearly a good time to read or reread the following PDF file written by the late great Isaac Asimov. He uses the term telebook, which is kind of quaint. A little girl is nostalgic about the way things were before technological advancements ruined everything, well at least made us a little less human. The short story is really short, probable only a page or two if you read it on a Kindle. Isaac will surely smile in heaven if you read it that way. My birthday is coming up, and I'd like one of those as a gift, the DX model in shiny silver (currently you have no choice), if it's not asking too much.

I like old fashioned books too, MnM... but I second Russ on "this the greatest time in human history to be curious"... or let me put it this way - the greatest time to date in human history. The nice thing about technological development is we can't even imagine now the amazing things we'll have down the road.
