Whole Foods [2] CEO John Mackey has this excellent article in today’s Wall Street Journal [3]. In it, he lists eight reforms that, if taken, would free the market for health-care and make that market more efficient and responsive to consumer desires. (Note: I’ve never been a big fan of tort-reform — one of the reforms that Mackey lists. This fact puts me in a minority among free-market types [4]. But I don’t trust legislatures to set prices in courtrooms. I do, though, advocate adoption of the rule of loser pays.)
Here’s a key paragraph from Mackey’s article:
Rather than increase government spending and control, we need to address the root causes of poor health. This begins with the realization that every American adult is responsible for his or her own health.
Indeed.
