"the gov't will probably not just cut the money from the budget and will use it to subsidize something else"

You are not pessimistic, but realistic. That is what they will do, because that is what they always do.

That was my second thought from the first article. My first thought is that few people will hear about the fuel subsidy and also few people will acknowledge that is will be beneficial that the gov't does not use this spend this money because of the reasons we talked about in our Keynes discussion. My second thought was, but the gov't will probably not just cut the money from the budget and will use it to subsidize something else. So am I being too pessimistic if I disagree with Don about the article was "good?"

So soon? I didn't think government would show us yet another reason why "choice in healthcare" with reform is a pipe dream, so quickly.

Anyone naive enough to believe that we'll have real choice when one of the competitors in the market also happens to make law might deserve what they get.

Venezuela’s US$647 per capita per year in subsidies comes primarily from selling petrol at 2 euro cents per liter or US$ 10 cents per gallon and with this the government that likes to be known as socialistic, but that is in fact about the most asocial governments on earth, transfers around 10 percent of its GDP from those who have nothing to those driving around in cars, and which are currently also imported at preferential FX rates. http://bit.ly/rWRz7

The truth is not a sufficient defense in the free market; and lies are not a chargeable offense in the political market.

Law is an amazing thing. Too bad we don't regulate its' practitioners ;)
