This fascinating collection of charts [1] from the Tax Foundation includes these two charts that show how much demographics have changed and how difficult it is to draw conclusions over time:
The median “taxpayer”, the unit that is in the middle of the middle quintile, has a very different family structure today than the median in 1960.
