Who’d a-Thunk It?

Highly paid producers licensed by government use their special privileges to force consumers to pay higher prices and, at the same time, deny to would-be rivals the opportunity to compete.  Such rent-protecting pillage is typical of how the state is used – and yet scholars and pundits who fancy themselves devotees of science consistently ignore this political reality in calling upon the state to intervene to correct this and that (real and imagined) ‘imperfection’ (including, one must point out here, high medical-care expenses).  Such a mindset is mysterious.
