A Protectionist is Someone Who…

… when hearing of a little old lady who was robbed of all her money while on her way to the grocery store laments the harm and the ‘wrong’ thereby inflicted on the grocer.

… when learning of a little old lady who voluntarily gave all of her money to a beggar whom she encountered while on her way to the grocery store, accuses the beggar of practicing ‘unfair competition’ against the grocer and then demands that the police officer prevent the little old lady from ever again giving her money to beggars.

… when learning that a little old lady on her way to the grocery store to buy lemonade was enticed instead to buy lemonade from a young girl selling low-priced lemonade that the girl’s mom made, accuses the girl and her mom of practicing ‘unfair competition’ against the grocer – of committing an ethical offense against the grocer – and then demands that the police officer extract from every buyer of the young-girl’s lemonade a punitive fine.
