More on Non-Nobels

Tweet [1]

Former GMU student Bob Subrick wisely asks, about my post [2] on dead economists who did not win the Nobel Prize, why I left off of my list Jacob Viner [3] and Gottfried Haberler [4].

Viner should be on the list. I thought he died before 1969; in fact, he died in 1970. Despite his plaguing economics with the silly envelope long-run-average-cost curve, he was a great theorist who deserved the Prize.

Haberler was not as influential as Viner. Certainly he deserves the Prize more than some economists who have gotten it, but I doubt that his contributions and influence were as great or as important as were those of the other economists on my list.
