Thanks to Rich Fink for telling me about this fabulous song and video from SayReal . Here’s the note that Rich sent along with the link:
Frederick Douglass, in an 1857 speech in Canandaigua, New York had this to say: “Without a struggle, there can be no progress.” Our nation has seen quite a bit of progress since Douglass’ time, but it hasn’t been without struggle. The landscape of freedom—and the struggle to maintain it—looks vastly different now than it did in Douglass’ day; but, the stakes are just as high. Just as in 1857, today, and as will be true in the future, the understanding and commitment of each generation to freedom is critical to maintaining and advancing free and just societies.
