I probably became a libertarian through exposure to tough-minded professors who encouraged me to think with my brain instead of my heart. Another important exposure: to the works of great philosopher/economists such as Frederic Bastiat [3], Ludwig von Mises [4], Friedrich A. Hayek [5], and Milton Friedman [6].
DBx: Elsewhere in his autobiography Walter justly celebrates the brilliance of Armen Alchian [7] – one of Walter’s actual teachers at UCLA and an economist whose works, in my opinion, remain very much under-appreciated.
