One of the more infuriating yet predictable fall-back positions of protectionists is that after losing an economic argument, they just dismiss free trade apologetics as “extreme”. In other words, they favor moderation in all things, including reason, generosity and respect for freedoms of one’s fellow citizens. We must inject a little stupidity in every argument if we want to strike a sensible balance.
