Quotation of the Day…

Tweet [1]

… is from Tyler Cowen’s March 16, 2013, New York Times column, “A Profession With an Egalitarian Core [2]“:

Often, economists spend their energies squabbling with one another, but arguably the more important contrast is between our broadly liberal economic worldview and the various alternatives – common around the globe – that postulate natural hierarchies of religion, ethnicity, caste and gender, often enforced by law and strict custom.

DBx: Competent economists are among the last people on this globe to find merit in identity politics or in identity ideologies. Competent economists are among the last people on this globe to accept the lazy accusation “discrimination” as the first explanation for observed differences among groups of human beings.

And competent economists are among the first people on this globe to truly attempt as best as is humanly possible to judge each individual according to his or her individual merit rather than according to whichever group (however natural or artifactual) that individual is said to ‘belong.’
