Every time I post such a news item about Trump and indicate that he is an idiot, people try to explain to me what a genius he is. Baloney. He is as dumb as they come. I understand that this threat may be nothing but more of his political bombast, but he always talks as if he has zero understanding of economic life and knows nothing of the extent to which U.S. producers and consumers depend on imports from Mexico. To him, such imports are simply a net loss. He is a mercantilist on steroids. If this guy ever really made any money in business, it must have been by sheer accident aided by crime. Closing the border? Lunacy. He is completely disconnected from economic reality.
