Want to Reduce Your Intelligence? Watch a Spectacle Commonly Called a Political “Debate”

Here’s a letter to the Washington Post:

Editor:

Here are some takeaways from the comments of last-evening’s Democratic presidential “debaters”:

– Large private companies that, despite being unable to force their services upon us, are nevertheless impoverishing and enslaving us. We can be saved from this scourge only by giving yet more power and resources to an even larger institution that is able to force its ‘services’ upon us.

– The trick to making health care and education less costly is to finance even more of it with money taken from third parties.

– We ordinary Americans are incompetent to choose the terms on which we each seek employment and on how to finance our college educations. We are competent only to choose which politician possesses the competence to choose for us the terms on which we collectively must take employment and on how to finance our college educations.

– It is acceptable, even admirable, for adults in political settings not only to be ungrateful, petty, envious, covetous, and bullying, but also to be comically uninformed about matters on which they ostensibly came prepared to discuss [2].
