The powers and pretensions of presidents should long since have become an embarrassment to the public. Upon what meat doth this our Caesar feed, That he is grown so great? The presidential office has fattened on the exigencies of a sprawling, intrusive government and on the (somewhat consequent) childishness of its citizenry.
