Da Senator?

The Republican Party of Illinois has a little problem. Their candidate for Senate, Jack Ryan, has withdrawn from the race because his wife has alleged in her divorce papers that he pressured her to engage in public displays of affection. So who will pick up the gauntlet? Mike Ditka, football hall-of-famer and former coach of the Bears has expressed interest, reports the Tribune.

He does have one of the most important attributes of politics, name recognition. Here’s his assessment of his qualifications:

Indeed, in an interview on WGN-TV, Ditka said that despite never seeking public office, he could “be a better senator then Ted Kennedy,” the veteran Democrat from Massachusetts. “I didn’t have any experience of head coaching when I took over the Bears, either, so that’s bull,” he said.
