My wife, Karol, has been back in Africa for the past three weeks doing research for the Mercatus Center‘s project Enterprise Africa!. She’s in Rwanda now — a country that is today much more peaceful, and commercial, than it was in the mid-1990s. Here’s Karol’s recent dispatch from Rwanda.

Don, Enterprise Africa has an office in Jo'burg, doesn't it? You guys need any local support from an American ex-pat? I don't have a ton of free time, but it would be nice to make some kind of contribution.
Nathan,
Many thanks. Mercatus and Enterprise Africa! are working in S.A. with the Free Market Foundation there.
There was an interesting supplement in the Sunday NY Times Magazine on Rwanda. Of course government ministers were featured but there was much talk of privitization and a market-driven economy. Hopefully Rwanda can develop a market-driven economy without government interference or interference from the "fair trade" crowd, per the other post.
