This week's EconTalk episode is Peter Blair Henry talking about growth. It starts off slowly, but after the first five or so minutes, he has a lot of interesting to say about the relative economic performance of Jamaica vs. Barbados and growth generally. Jamaica and Barbados have similar colonial roots (British) so much of the post-colonial experience is more attributable to policy differences.

Basically the less government intervention the more economic growth you get. It works every time it's been tried.
