I listened to Tyler’s book through an Audible download [from the Apple iTunes store]. I expected much more and was disappointed that the autism theme was so, pardon the word play, pervasive. It was a useful book, but the way it was organized and because of its content, the book seemed to be mis-titled.

Ironic the timing of the guests. Munger is my absolute favorite guest, and Tyler my least.

i enjoyed this one very much, especially his observation of how culture and communication is being changed by the internet.

Justin P September 7, 2009 at 3:36 pm

I have to agree with you on that.

Anonymous September 7, 2009 at 3:15 pm

I have to agree on the MungerCasts being my favorite, too.

I’ve trademarked Mungercast. You owe me exactly $.005, lcj. ;)

drat. I made that joke before, and to lcj, no less.

Tyler has lost a lot of goodwill from me in recent days… I was kind of hoping you and him would have talked about his stance in the bank bailout debate that has been going on. I’m talking about the discussion between Mark Rizzo, Steve Horwitz, Robert Murphy, and others against Tyler due to him saying the bank bailouts were a good idea, and he said Milton Friedman would have supported bank bailouts, and furthermore, that any libertarian who thinks otherwise is pretending. Oy vay….

Anyway, enough Cowen bashing. I also agree MungerCasts rock

joenorton,

More on the bailouts very soon.

I seldom see anything of interest to me at Tyler Cowen’s blog, and it’s beginning to get that way here, too, with the endless examples of Cleaning by Capitalism. Enough already. You’ve made your point.

I hate like the dickens to criticize you, because you are so far above any others on the Internet, and have been so absolutely wonderful, such true gentlemen and scholars, and the best defenders of the market today. And it is hardly for me or anyone else to tell you what to do. But I might hope that, before exhausting the examples of Cleaning by Capitalism, you might find some time for your own self-proclaimed “bottom line,” dat ol’ debil, redistribution.

I won’t say anything.

Lesvic, has it occurred to you where we’d be if these guys decided to devote their energies to winning academic accolades instead of blogging? I don’t see how they find time for this, so it counts as a genuine miracle of “spontaneous order.” I’ve been reading The Economist magazine for 30 years and what I have learned from the Economist about economics isn’t 10% of what I’ve learned from these guys in the last year just listening to podcasts and reading some of the works and authors they discuss. For God’s sake, go easy on them.

Looking forward to it, thanks!

Pluv,

You’re absolutely right.

Cowen has always struck me as having a lot of potential. I’ve listened to him speak a couple of times and each time I’ve been disappointed. I’ve also found his blog to be somewhat…lacking. That said, I’ve enjoyed this podcast so far (I’m a little over halfway through). I think it’s because of the flow. He and Russ seem to bounce from topic to topic in a way that they’ll both make an “interesting point” and then move on.

while like other listeners/readers i haven’t found Tyler to be someone I often agree with or get something from reading or listening to, I really enjoyed this podcast. the second half is really stellar. it was informative and entertaining.
