in Stimulus

Virgil Storr and I were chatting just outside of my office a moment ago.  I observed that (former U.S. Treasury Secretary) “Hank Paulson looks like a bad guy in a Bond flick.”

Virgil immediately replied: “He is a bad guy in a bond flick.”  !!!

  • Ages before the meltdown, I had wanted to post at voluntaryXchange that every time I saw Hank Paulson's picture I thought he looked like he was going to punch someone's lights out.

I didn't post that, but I wish I had. I now get the impression that people working with him may have actually felt that way.
  • You guys make it seem it wasn't necessary to provide liquidity to those banks. I think he did the most rational thing at the time.

You know, when all this mess started unraveling, I thought I recognized Paulson from somewhere. You've hit the nail on the head exactly, it's from the James Bond movies of my youth. Without a doubt, his appearance (and actions) are a complete caricature of some James Bond villian.

Just in case people don't know what the subject of this jocularity looks like.

Where'd you get the picture of Colonel Klink?

Who is Bond? Who does he represent? Inquiring minds want to know.

Your inquiry just proves you're a good guy, the bad guys always knew Bond and instantly on sight no less.

The best known secret in the world.

Maybe it's because of my age, but he invariably made me think of Daddy Warbucks in Little Orphan Annie.

... You know, I can agree with that. Should that worry me?

Nice. I also like Arnold Kling's description of Hammering Stammering Hank: the American Mussolini.
