Two of the success stories in India’s economy since liberalization have been information technology and the Bollywood film industry. Meghnad Desai has pointed out that neither was favored by government planners. The IT industry “is entirely a self-generated miracle” while Bollywood “is completely neglected by the government, and it is a global success.”
