The latest EconTalk podcast is up—a conversation with Robert Lucas on a variety of topics related to growth and standards of living around the world and over time. My favorite part is when he talks about the influence of Milton Friedman and he highlights Friedman the teacher when I expected him to mention Friedman the scholar.
Lucas had a similar impact on me. I never became a macroeconomist. But sitting in his class was incredibly inspiring. He had a deep interest in understanding the world. You could tell he was interested in more than getting another publication. He was a truth-seeker.
