And the U.S. Even Bore the Enforcement Costs!

Here’s a letter that I sent today to the Boston Globe:

Derrick Jackson is correct that the U.S. government over the years has done much to harm Haiti (“Disaster is opportunity to do right in Haiti,” Jan. 16).  Among the destructive policies mentioned by Mr. Jackson is President Thomas Jefferson’s “crippling policy of trade embargoes” against that nation.

It’s refreshing to see that Mr. Jackson understands that trade restrictions diminish people’s capacity to produce widespread wealth.  I expect that, from now on, he’ll be a leading voice in your pages for free trade and globalization.
