A Quick Thought

Pondering this post, I’m led to ask: How many politicians (or pundits, or professors, or rent-seekers) have, on occasion A, praised government’s allegedly unique ability to divine what are the firms or industries of ‘the future’ and to profitably and properly subsidize those firms or industries in ways that are supposedly justified by correctly understood market conditions – but who also, on occasion B, have called for countervailing tariffs or other import restrictions on the grounds that some foreign government is subsidizing or protecting certain of its country’s firms or industries?

Think about it.
