Jim Buchanan on the Myth of *THE* Public Interest

in Myths and Fallacies, Politics, Video

I last saw Jim Buchanan one year ago this month, on GMU’s Fairfax campus when he spoke at the 2012 annual Public Choice Outreach Seminar.  In this very short video – which appears to have been filmed about nine or ten years ago – Jim shows why he deserves to be applauded as one of the 20th-century’s greatest mythbusters.

Jim will likely never be celebrated and acclaimed as much as he deserves because people do not generally like having their romantic fantasies about their collective or their government or democracy challenged. But for scientific clarity about the nature of collective action and politics, few people in history match the deep insight of Jim Buchanan.
