Profit is required for business survival – and sex discrimination is not profitable. If women are willing and able continuously to do the same amount of the same work as men, an employer would be foolish to pay men more when he could hire equally productive women for less. Companies that paid their male employees higher wages would have higher production costs and would be less able to compete with companies that did not discriminate.
