… (1) supposes that the citizens of country A are impoverished – rather than enriched – if the government of country B forces the citizens of country B to subsidize the consumption of the citizens of country A, and, likewise, (2) supposes that the citizens of country B are enriched – rather than impoverished – by being forced by their own government to subsidize the consumption of the citizens of country A.

A protectionist is someone whose perspective on reality is very bizarre.
