… is from page 165 of Helmut Schoeck’s 1956 paper “Individuality vs. Equality,” which is a chapter in Essays On Individuality, Felix Morley, ed. (Indianapolis: Liberty Press, 1977 [1958]):

Private property is inextricably linked to human individuality.

DBx: Indeed it is.

Any serious attenuation of private property rights not only distorts economic activity to the point where economic growth becomes economic calamity, such attenuation destroys also the rule of law, freedom, and individuality. (The actor Jim Carrey likely doesn’t understand this fact.)
