In my scenario, the heroes are not so much politicians like Henry Clay or Franklin D. Roosevelt, nor government bureaucrats like Vannevar Bush, but individual entrepreneurs whose vision, hard work, and risk-taking propelled the nation forward – great entrepreneurs like Cornelius Vanderbilt, John D. Rockefeller, and, more recently, Sam Walton, Steve Jobs, and Sergey Brin. And countless smaller, less well-known entrepreneurs who contributed to the nation’s rising affluence.
