Quotation of the Day…

… is from page 204 of Thomas Sowell’s magnificent 1995 book, The Vision of the Anointed: Self-Congratulation as a Basis for Social Policy:

[S]pecialization is a way of coping with the inadequacies of the human mind.

DBx: Indeed so.

It follows that the amount of human intelligence put to intelligent use when we specialize and interact – trading with each other the fruits of our unique skills, creative sparks, and bits of knowledge and information – is greater than is the sum of the intelligence and creativity of each of us. Those persons who would restrict trade or speech thus wish to reduce the amount of human intelligence and creativity that is at work for humanity.

Happy 94th Birthday to Thomas Sowell!
