It goes without saying that progressive myths promote anti-white racism. Perhaps less obvious is that they also help to keep traditional racism against minorities alive. One way they do this is by making race salient. The constant, obsessive discussion of race keeps racial categorizations in the front of everyone’s minds.
DBx: Huemer writes here, of course, of the progressivism of the early 21st century. The progressivism of the early 20th century was equally racist, but a century ago the favored ‘race’ – the ‘race’ to be coddled and protected against the dangers allegedly posed by members of more menacing or less worthy ‘races’ – was the white ‘race.’ See Thomas Leonard’s great 2016 book, Illiberal Reformers.
