After reading Phil Gramm’s and my latest piece in the Wall Street Journal, a knowledgeable friend in Alabama sent to me the following e-mail, which I share with that friend’s kind permission:

1 out of every 7 jobs in Alabama is connected to international trade through our port which we just spent $2 Billion to improve.  Unless the Port of Mobile will be exempt from tariffs, this will be all pain, with little gain. Thanks for highlighting the history of this potential disaster!
