Indeed... This is one of those rare occasions I can say that I support Bush's decision, even if I don't agree with his reasoning.
Both parties seem to be sidestepping the issue at hand though. Republicans are arguing that the Stem Cell research is murder, and Democrats are yelling back that it’s fine because thousands of these stem cells are just thrown away every day. But neither party seems to acknowledge the fact that this is not whether to allow the research or not... it’s whether to fund it. When there is a bill to expand the existing lines, they will have more pertinent arguments.
I agree that it would have been even better to veto the highway bill, but as I point out below, it was nevertheless the right decision, even if made on faulty grounds.
