Deregulation and Keynesian Stimulus

If, as some persons assert, today’s economic problems are the result of 30-odd years of deregulation and laissez-faire policies, then why do many of these same persons who make this assertion also assert that massive fiscal stimulus will go a long way — or should even be a part of an attempt — to right the U.S. economy?

Surely significant structural malformities created by ill-advised deregregulations would not be righted simply by even the the most massive increase in aggregate demand.
