The Fallacy of Composition Is, In Fact, a Fallacy

Here’s a letter to the Wall Street Journal:

Editor:

Arguing that Pres. Trump’s steel tariffs help the American economy, United States Steel Corp. CEO David Burritt boasts of the benefits that these tariffs bestow on his company and industry (Letters, March 26).

By this logic, D.B. Cooper can argue that hijacking and extortion help the American economy by boasting of the benefits that his successful 1971 hijacking and extortion bestowed on him and other successful hijacker-extortionists.
