Bonus Quotation of the Day…

In 19th Century Britain, classical liberals in the Cobden tradition were just about the only reasonably consistent *opponents* of colonialism.

Blaming colonialism’s crimes on classical liberals is about as coherent as blaming the Ron Paul movement for the Iraq War.

And yet the Marxist left makes this charge against classical liberals all the time – usually while handwaving away Marxist atrocities. It’s even more absurd once you consider that Karl Marx himself defended colonialism and wrote several pieces that denigrated the intelligence of non-white people, including implying that they were incapable of governing themselves.
