Trump asserts that his tariffs will fall on illegal drugs – the same illegal trusts that, although smuggled into the U.S., will somehow mysteriously be kept out of the U.S. by Trump’s tariffs! The fallacies in play in this Truth Social post are too many to count.
[UPDATE: Someone suggested to me the possibility that the fentanyl that Trump here has in mind is legal fentanyl. If so, his Truth Social post is no less detached from reality, as tariffing legal fentanyl will raise its price relative to the illegal stuff peddled by the smugglers, thus increasing the demand for illegal fentanyl and putting more money into the pockets of drug smugglers.]
